Michael Durrant
Michael Durrant is founder and Director of the Brief Therapy Institute of Sydney. He is a psychologist with an international reputation in Solution-focused Brief Therapy and applications of "the Strengths Perspective". He has consulted and trained in applications of strengths-based ideas in schools and is author of Creative strategies for school problems: Solutions of psychologists and teachers (published by W. W. Norton, New York, in 1995 and since translated into French, Dutch and Japanese).
Michael has conducted in-service training for school staff at a number of high schools in New South Wales and the ACT - including Picton High School and Leumeah High School in NSW, has consulted to Doonside Technology High School in Sydney's western suburbs in the development of a "strengths-based" discipline policy, has conducted "staff development" training for groups of school personnel, including addressing a Principals' conference, has addressed education conferences in Queensland, Victoria and overseas, and has acted as a consultant to a number of special education programs for students with behaviour disorders.
Ian Johnsen
Ian Johnsen is psychologist who worked for a number of years in a large high school and in a program for "students at risk". He has experience working with adolescents "on the streets" and with "at risk" youth and has developed creative ways of harnessing adolescent motivation. Ian has developed a range of PRACTICAL strategies and pro-formas for harnessing the non-existent motivation of the student who has been "sent" to you.
