ALL TRAINING POSTPONED DUE TO COVID-19. DETAILS OF NEW DATES AVAILABLE SOON!

Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Updated 31 March 2020

We are monitoring the respiratory illness outbreak caused by coronavirus (COVID-19). We will update this page as necessary with the latest medical and government advice IF that advice impacts on our activities.

31 March

Things are moving VERY quickly, with changes daily. We are aware that restrictions on public gatherings and travel, and the injunction that people work from home wherever possible, have disrupted many people's Professional Development plans for the rest of the year. Our training program has been placed ON HOLD.

Please note that NO COURSES HAVE BEEN CANCELLED. At this stage, courses scheduled for March–June have been postponed and will be rescheduled once restrictions on public gatherings have been sufficiently relaxed. At present, we are leaving courses scheduled for July onwards at their current dates. We will review the situation at the end of May (or sooner if the government announcements warrant).

People who have registered for postponed courses have a credit

People who registered for training courses which have been cancelled — you have a credit for the full amount you have paid that we hope you will use to attend the course once it is rescheduled. The credit will be for the full amount you have paid and is valid until 31 March 2021 and may be applied towards any of our training courses. (This date may be extended if the current situation lasts longer than currently expected). Further, your credit will be valid as full payment for a rescheduled course EVEN of that course is advertised at a higher price. Note that you may opt to apply the credit towards registration for a different person to attend a rescheduled course. You do not need to do anything, we will be in touch once new dates are available,

Please contact us for urgent enquiries only

Things are fairly crazy at the moment, as I'm sure they are for you.   We will let you know rescheduled dates, etc.as soon as we are able to confirm them; and we are hopeful that you can wait until then to decide whether or not you wish to attend the rescheduled course.

This is a difficult time for all of us — with a degree of uncertainty we have never before experienced. The word "unprecedented" is probably being overused — but it is accurate. In more than 35 years of organising and presenting Solution-Focused training, we have never experienced the degree of uncertainty and rapid change in things beyond our control that faces us now. Not only are we trying to juggle the training schedule for the rest of this year but we are also trying to figure out how to keep the business viable, so we can resume training as quickly as possible once things change. I thank you for your patience and your support.

One final Solution-Focused thought

Once this is all over, the number one Solution-Focused question will be, "So, how did you get through the Coronavirus period" or "So, how did you cope with two months of working from home, with your partner and kids around the whole time?" This should be the lead-in to a gentle identification and exploration of strengths and successes.

17 March

Due to the rapid developments in the COVID-19 situation, we have taken the decision to POSTPONE Solution-Focused Brief Therapy training scheduled for Sydney (Parramatta), Melbourne and Adelaide at the end of March and beginning of April. New dates will be posted as soon as they are confirmed.

16 March

As you are aware, the situation with Coronavirus (COVID-19) in Australia is changing daily and that precautions that were not advised at one point sometimes become advised as URGENT only a couple of weeks later. This is understandably causing some anxiety and uncertainty about upcoming events and the need to plan ahead as best we can, given this is a developing situation.

At present, the Commonwealth Government has issued an active alert and the World Health Organisation has stated the overall risk to Australians remains low. Advice indicates that most people can continue to go to work, school and other public places as normal (excluding non-essential gatherings of over 500 people). Current advice is only to stay away from public places (self-isolate for 14 days) if advised to by a medical professional, if you are returning from overseas (any country) or you have been in contact with a person known to have COVID-19.

It is therefore anticipated that Brief Therapy Institute of Sydney training events will continue as planned unless Commonwealth or State Government public health advice changes, or in response to specific localised conditions. However, we feel it is prudent to consider contingency planning, so have undertaken a number of additional temporary measures to ensure a clean and safe learning environment for our participants as follows:

  • Our workshops are always a maximum of 30 participants (often fewer), which is well below the  limit the government has set;
  • We will liaise with workshop venues to ensure extra sanitation precautions are taking place;
  • We will no longer seat people around tables but will use individual seats. While this might make writing a little difficult, it will allow chairs to be moved to aid social distancing;
  • Role-plays and small-group discussions are an integral part of the training we offer, which may seem at odds with recommendations about social distancing; however, we will ensure that our workshop activities involve no direct person to person contact. Also, since the Commonwealth Health Department defines "close contact" as including face to face meeting of at least 15 minutes duration, we will seek to limit each individual interactive workshop activity to 15 minutes.

Should the need to cancel or postpone events arise, we will endeavour to work with venues and customers to keep you updated via the website, social media and your contact details provided to us upon registration.

Participants exhibiting flu-like symptoms will be politely declined admittance into the venue.

Should you contract COVID-19 in the week following attendance at our training, we would be grateful if you would advise us promptly. We undertake that we will NOT disclose your name or other identifying information (except as we are required to give this information to government Health authorities).

We will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation, so keep an eye out for further updates from us.

Please bear with us during this time of uncertainty. Your patience is appreciated. Should you have any questions or concerns regarding our upcoming events please email us.

Thank you for your ongoing support of Brief Solutions Pty Ltd. We look forward to welcoming you at a training event soon.
